James Buchanan

 

image alt text...Economist James Buchanan received the Nobel Prize of Economic Sciences in 1986. His contributions to economics range from the elaboration on the concept of opportunity costs (Cost and Choice), to the functioning of democracy (The calculus of consent with Geoffrey Brennan), to the economics of taxation (The power to tax with Geoffrey Brennan) and the global implications of increasing returns for trade policies. He is also a political philospher who contributed greatly to the debates over the role of the State and the possibility of anarchy (The limits of liberty).
