Ministers of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have expressed worry over the poor state of the transportation and energy sectors in the sub region.
At the on-going second ordinary session of the ECOWAS parliament, ministers have expressed their concerns over how it is difficult for member countries to transport goods and people from one border to the other without being harassed by security personnel who are either just making money out of corrupt practices or genuinely doing their jobs.
ECOWAS member countries are to allow free movements of people and trade to help improve the economy of countries and enhance the success of the community as a whole.
In terms of energy the ministers made note of the fact that energy in which ever form, is becoming increasing difficult to come by. It seems though that the issues are being addressed. The gas interconnection project is in progress and there are plans to establish a nuclear plant to generate power in the region. A department for free movement of people has also been created to monitor and make sure policy of free movement was being implemented.
