President Yar’Adua Budget Signature Forged. (BBC)

Opposition party in Nigeria is accusing the government of forging the ailing president’s signature on supplementary budget last month. The police have been informed and asked to look into the matter thoroughly. The government’s claim that the president signed the documents in Saudi Arabia despite being treated for a heart condition did not go down well with the opposition. The president has been away for six weeks creating a power vacuum that is dangerous for Africa’s most populous nation. Activists have taken the matter to court demanding that power be transferred to the vice -president.

A group calling itself the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties has through its lawyer presented a letter that tried to verify claims that the president signed the documents on his sick bed. The group also said it has confirmation the president’s signature and seal of the federal republic was forged. The cases will be heard by the court in the coming weeks.
