Sudan leader Al-Bashir Starts re-election bid. (BBC)

General elections will be held in Sudan in April and the president Omar Al- Bashir has been officially nominated by his northern National Congress Party to stand. The north and south of Sudan have been engaged in a scuffle and this year’s election will see an end to the two decade old civil war. The opposition party SPLM is expected to announce its candidate later this week and it is unlikely to be their leader Salva Kiir.

There are security concerns about the upcoming elections and referendum. Whether or not there will be a free and fair election is also another issue the country and security forces need to tackle.
