Taylors son Ordered to pay torture damages. (BBC)

The son of ex-Liberian president has been ordered by a US judge to pay more than $22 million to five people who suffered tortured during the civil war days. Mr. Charles MacArthur Taylor also known as Chuckie was the leader of a unit which carried out the abuses. Chuckie was sentenced to 97 years in prison by the same Miami federal court which has ruled for payment to victims.

The five testified that they were abused under the Anti-terrorist Unit. Some of the abuses they went through include, being exposed to electric shocks to the genitals and other part of the body, held in pits filled with water chest –high and witnessed the killings of other civilians by the unit. Mr. Taylor Jnr currently serving his term in an Illinois prison dismissed the torture allegations as deceptive propaganda. Human rights groups are pleased with the ruling and the fact that it will serve as a deterrent to those perpetuating similar violence against civilians.
