Nigeria: Telecom Sector To Sustain Growth

Lagos — Nigerian telecoms sector has been projected to expand in financial growth by 6 per cent over the next five years, a study by Pyramid Research, a London-based telecoms research firm indicates.

The study titled, "Nigeria: New Ministry, Infrastructure Investments and ICT," said that the policies will boost market' details of the country's telecom, media and technology sectors, indicating that expansion in rural areas will spur growth nationwide.

"The competitive landscape of Nigeria's telecom sector has forced operators to roll out new infrastructure to improve coverage and quality, which has resulted in a surge of subscription growth and usage," the report states.

An associate research analyst at Pyramid Research, Ms Ronda Zelezny-Green, said, "Mobile services will benefit handsomely from these investments with the sector as a whole will be expanding at a rate of 5.9 percent in dollar terms between 2011 and 2016."

The study added that rural areas of the country have the most to gain and the country should begin to notice their successful expansion in financial terms in the near future by boosting infrastructure to reach the country's remote areas.
