Tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered in Cairo's Tahrir square and several other cities in a million-man protest for "Justice" in a protest against the verdicts on deposed president Hosni Mubarak, his sons, his interior minister and six of the latter's aides. Protesters also demands implementing the political rights law which bans candidate Ahmed Shafiq from running for presidency.
Cairo's Criminal Court sentenced Mubarak and his interior minister, Habib Al-Adli, to life in prison and acquitted his sons, Gamal and Alaa, and Al-Adli's aides from charges of killing protesters, which led many to question the impartiality of the law.
Protesters rocked the square, chanting, "Revolutionaries, revolutionaries, we will carry on", "One hand" and "Bread, Freedom and Social Justice" as well as chants condemning Shafiq's participation in the election.
A number of MPs participated in the protest, including Mohamed Al-Beltagi, Essam Sultan, Mamdouh Ismail and Abul Ezz Al-Hariri.
Thousands were led by ex-contender Hamdeen Sabahi in a march starting from Mohamed Mahmoud square to Tahrir on Tuesday afternoon.
Two marches led by ex-contenders Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh and Khaled Ali reached Tahrir as well to take part in the protest.
A number of Al-Azhar Sheikhs headed to Tahrir, demanding justice for the martyrs.
