2 Dead in Nairobi National Park Plane Crash

Nairobi — Two people were killed on Wednesday when a light aircraft crashed at the Nairobi National Park.

The aircraft carrying an instructor and a trainee pilot had just taken off from the nearby Wilson Airport when it went down and caught fire.

"Two people have been burnt to death, the impact was huge but the cause of the crash is not known yet," a police officer from the Wilson Airport Police Station said from the crash site.

The National Disaster Operations Centre (NDOC) said the aircraft involved in the crash was a Cessna 172.

"The plane caught fire during takeoff from Wilson Airport at about 10.30am," NDOC said, "Investigators on the scene."

Last year, the government was forced to relocate slum dwellers just outside the airport fearing they would fall victim of such accidents.
